BRIEF HISTORY OF FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, OJODU.

First Baptist Church, Ojodu (a.k.a The Loving People) was previously known as Ojodu First Baptist Church and came into existence on the 27th of April, 1980.

Prior to the establishment, some Baptist members/families were hitherto attending various distant Baptist Churches, particularly, First Baptist Church, Ikeja. Some of these families were late Dn. J.P Ige family,  Oba Olatunde Falabi’s family to mention but few. There were other families that came from some other Baptist Churches that formed part of the genesis congregation. These were the families of Pa S.O.J Omotola, Pa S.O Sowole, Pa B.A Oyediran, Pa. S.O Koleoso, Pa Sogbesan among a few others.

It was the historic act of coming together of these families for worship service in Elder Olatunde Falabi’s (now Oba Olatunde Falabi) compound that resulted at the beginning of a promising preaching station of First Baptist Church, Ikeja. The preaching station was relocated to a more spacious poultry farm premises owned by Oba Olatunde Falabi at Ore Meta Street, Ojodu.

On the 22nd of January, 1984, the church joyfully moved to her permanent site at 3/5 Church Street, Ojodu. The church had a humble beginning as the worship services were held in an initial wooden structure. It’s on record that F.B.C, Ojodu, and the mother church (F.B.C, Ikeja) jointly contributed the fund for the purchase of the two plots of land where the church structures stand today.

MISSIONS, EVANGELISM AND PREACHING STATIONS

The church embarked on a passionate mission and evangelism pursuits. As a follow up to the revival and crusade programme conducted at Isasi area, necessary and vigorous efforts were made to acquire a landed property within Isasi and Denro axis. The church successfully acquired a plot of land at Denro where Marvellous Baptist Church was planted. The church, at the initial stage, started worship services in Mr Adedeji’s house and later relocated to the permanent site – the acquired property – on September 13, 1995. The church was formally organized on December 19, 2009.

Similarly, F.B.C, Ojodu conceived a vision to plant an English speaking Baptist Church. The vision was actualised through an initial house fellowship centre at late Pa. Shippi’s house at 29, Akinwumi Street, Olowora in 1998. This house fellowship centre gradually transformed into a full-fledged church (Victory Baptist Church, Olowora) where an inaugural worship service was held on 17th January 1999. The church was organized on July 10, 2010.  F.B.C, Ojodu also called two pastors to take over the church leadership from the esteemed and commendable laymen who led the two churches from the beginning.

The seed of a new preaching station was sown on May 29, 2018 when the church embarked on evangelism endeavour at Lufuwape, Ogun State. An inaugural church service commenced immediately on 3rd of June, 2018. The church, at the moment, is holding worship services on a rented property. Swift step was taken to purchase two plots of land for the new and growing preaching station.

At the International level, F.B.C, Ojodu actively pursued mission enterprise in Ohori Mission Field, Benin Republic. Apart from ministering to the people in various Ohori villages and leading them to Christ, some mission-minded members of the Church partnered together to build a structure for worship service in Oguba in 2007 while the entire F.B.C, Ojodu also built another worship sanctuary at Asaga in 2008. Through the Convention Missionary assigned to the mission field, the church maintained the payment of quarterly stipends to two Pastors ( Pastor Alamu & Pastor Bamgbose) in the mission field for some years.
